About Krishi Vigyan Kendra

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhenkanal is a First line Transfer of Technology Project sanctioned by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research on the 31st of March, 1993. Its primary objective was to transfer agricultural technology to farmers and promote efficient farming practices. Initially, the Kendra was established under the administrative control of the Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI), at present known as the National Rice Research Institute (NRRI). However, in pursuant to the Council's Office Order No. 5(143)/97 AE-II dated the 7th of June, 2001, the administrative control of the Kendra was transferred to Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar as a result, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhenkanal became the 9th Kendra under the OUAT umbrella. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhenkanal, located in the Mid Central Table Land Zone of Odisha and commenced its operations on the 17th of August 2001. Situated in Mahisapat, Dhenkanal, it stands in close proximity to the Regional Research and Technology Transfer Station.

The primary objective of Krishi Vigyan Kendra is to assess location-specific technology modules in agriculture and allied enterprises. Through its dedicated efforts in technology assessment, refinement, and demonstrations, the Kendra serves as an essential entity within the National Agricultural Research System (NARS). As a Knowledge and Resource Centre, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhenkanal plays a crucial role in supporting and spearheading initiatives aimed at improving the agricultural economy of the district. Its expertise and resources are utilized by public, private, and voluntary sectors, effectively linking the NARS with the extension system and farmers.

The operational area of this Kendra covers all eight blocks of the Dhenkanal district. These blocks include Bhuban, Dhenkanal, Gondia, Hindol, Kamakhyanagar, Kankadahad, Odapada, and Parjang. This broad coverage allows the Kendra to have a significant impact on the agricultural practices and livelihoods of a vast population. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhenkanal has embraced a multidimensional approach towards technology transfer. It conducts research, trains farmers, and organizes various outreach programs to disseminate knowledge and best practices. Additionally, the Kendra promotes sustainable farming techniques, advocates for the utilization of modern farming technologies, and encourages crop diversification.

Over the years, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhenkanal has emerged as a hub of innovation, collaboration, and agricultural development. Its efforts have contributed immensely to the growth and prosperity of the district's farming community. The Kendra's work not only improves agricultural productivity but also enhances the overall quality of life for the farmers and their families. In recent years, the Kendra has focused on promoting organic farming practices, soil health management, and water conservation methods. These initiatives have revolutionized agriculture in the region and contributed to a significant reduction in chemical fertilizer usage. Furthermore, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhenkanal has been actively involved in the development and promotion of novel agriculture enterprises such as beekeeping, mushroom cultivation, and vermicomposting. These alternative income-generating activities have empowered farmers to diversify their income sources and improve their socioeconomic status. The Kendra has also been instrumental in organizing training programs for rural women, equipping them with skills in processing, value addition, and marketing of agricultural produce. By empowering women, the Kendra has contributed to the overall empowerment of the rural community. In recognition of its exemplary work, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhenkanal has received numerous awards and accolades. Its dedication to research, innovation, and technology transfer has set a benchmark for other agricultural institutions in the country.
