
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhenkanal is a first-line Transfer of Technology Project sanctioned by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research to operate under the Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology, Bhubaneswar, in accordance with the Council's Office Order No. 5(143)/97 AE-II dated 07.06.2001.
Initially established on 31.03.1993 and operating under the administrative control of CRRI (currently NRRI), Cuttack, it was transferred to the administrative control of Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology, Bhubaneswar in 2001. This Kendra is the 9th Krishi Vigyan Kendra of OUAT and began operating on 17.08.2001 in the Mid Central Table Land Zone of Odisha. It is currently located in Mahisapat, Dhenkanal, near the Regional Research Technology Transfer Station, Mahisapat.
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra is an important part of the National Agricultural Research System (NARS) and aims to assess location-specific technology modules in agriculture and allied enterprises through technology assessment, refinement, and demonstrations. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Dhenkanal serves as a Knowledge and Resource Centre for agricultural technology, supporting initiatives from the public, private, and voluntary sectors to improve the agricultural economy of the district. It also connects the NARS with the extension system and farmers. The operational area of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Dhenkanal includes all eight blocks of the district: Bhuban, Dhenkanal, Gondia, Hindol, Kamakhyanagar, Kankadahad, Odapada, and Parjang.
The mandate of KVK is Technology Assessment and Demonstration for its Application and Capacity Development.
To implement the mandate effectively, the following activities are envisaged for
each KVK
1. On-farm testing to assess the location specificity of agricultural
technologies under various farming systems.
2. Frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of technologies
on the farmers’ fields.
3. Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update
their knowledge and skills on modern agricultural technologies.
4. To work as Knowledge and Resource Centre of agricultural technologies
for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving
the agricultural economy of the district.
5. Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied
subjects of interest to farmers
In addition, KVKs produce quality technological products (seed, planting material,
bio-agents, livestock) and make it available to farmers, organize frontline extension
activities, identify and document selected farm innovations and converge with ongoing
schemes and programs within the mandate of KVK.
